Fingal Chamber Calls on Government to End Dáil Disruptions and Deliver on Legislative Commitments
Fingal Chamber has expressed deep concern over the recent disorder in the Dáil, warning that ongoing disruptions have severely hindered parliamentary proceedings, delaying critical legislation and preventing meaningful debate on urgent national challenges.
Chief Executive Anthony Cooney has called on elected representatives to refocus on their responsibilities and deliver on their commitments to the Irish people.
“The recent chaos in the Dáil has not only brought parliamentary proceedings to a standstill but has also sidelined pressing issues such as the housing crisis and the looming trade war with the United States,” said Cooney.
He highlighted that Ireland is facing significant challenges, with economic uncertainty growing due to potential US tariffs, which Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has warned could put up to 80,000 jobs at risk.
“Businesses are closing or struggling under rising costs, and there are ongoing concerns over the provision of essential services such as water and power for critical infrastructure, including housing—while over 15,000 people remain homeless. Instead of tackling these challenges, political infighting has taken centre stage,” Cooney added.
Cooney further emphasised that the Programme for Government remains unfulfilled, with minimal legislative progress made over the past four months.
“The public has every right to feel frustrated and disillusioned. The continued political turmoil is eroding trust in leadership and weakening confidence in Ireland’s governance. The success of this government depends on decisive action and the timely execution of policies that address the real needs of the Irish people.”
Fingal Chamber is urging all members of the Oireachtas to set aside partisan disputes and focus on delivering meaningful solutions.
“In recent days, we have witnessed disorder, delays, and dysfunction. The Irish people and business community deserve a government that operates with integrity, efficiency, and a steadfast commitment to national welfare and prosperity,” Cooney concluded.
