The death has occurred of Stephen Malone

Stephen Malone RIP

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Stephen Malone, whose loss will be felt across the Fingal business community.

A Malahide native with a lifelong interest in engineering, Stephen studied at Trinity before beginning a hands-on career that took him from the brewery floors of Guinness to major industrial projects in Ireland, Britain and the US.

He later struck out on his own, and what began with a small team in Ballycoolin in 1999 grew steadily into Malone Group, now an international engineering and project management firm serving major clients in Ireland, the UK and Canada. He led the company through good times and difficult ones, including the collapse of 2008, when he chose to keep his team together and reshape the business for the long term. His focus on steady growth, practical engineering and strong relationships helped build a company that became, in time, a global force.

Fingal Chamber Chief Executive, Anthony Cooney, said:

"Stephen’s recent presence at the Fingal Business Awards, where Malone Group received the Large Business of the Year Award, showed both his pride in the team and how far the company had come under his leadership. Stephen himself was named Fingal Business Person of the Year in 2018, a recognition of his vision and the work of the people he supported across Ireland, the UK and North America.

Stephen was a much-valued member of Fingal Chamber's Business Council, a group of leaders whose insights and guidance help shape our policy priorities. He will be remembered for his calm, clear approach to problem-solving, his sense of purpose and his genuine commitment to the region.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Stephen’s wife Gillian, his children Ted and Emma, his mother Marion and his wider family and friends. He will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude. May he rest in peace."
