Chambers Ireland Welcomes Infrastructure Action Plan, Calls for Delivery Across All Regions
Chambers Ireland has welcomed the Government’s publication of the Accelerating Infrastructure – Report and Action Plan.
Speaking earlier today Chief Executive Ian Talbot said that the Plan is a step toward addressing long-standing barriers to infrastructure delivery:
“Across our network of affiliated Chambers the message is clear: housing and infrastructure must move from aspiration to action. The Action Plan sets out ambitious reforms and we welcome the focus on accountability. Its impact will rely on that accountability and turning time-bound commitments into measurable outcomes.
Energy, water and wastewater, and public transport infrastructure are all critical enablers of housing delivery and have a direct impact on our competitiveness and quality of life. When infrastructure stalls, businesses pay the price through higher costs, lost opportunities and reduced ability to expand. This in turn contributes directly to consumers’ cost of living.”
Talbot continued:
“The proposed legal reforms represent necessary intervention to unlock critical projects that are frequently trapped in planning or delayed by inefficiencies in processes. The Critical Infrastructure Bill must effectively cut through bureaucracy and unlock projects that communities and businesses urgently need.
We must all appreciate that infrastructure delivery depends on buy-in across communities and we welcome the emphasis on public acceptance to ensure these projects are understood and supported.
Spurious challenges and resulting delays are not victimless outcomes when they prevent the delivery of basic services for our growing population and families.”
