Businesses Hear Vision for Future of Swords Town Centre at Fingal Chamber Briefing

Fingal Chamber welcomed members and local business representatives to a special briefing on Thursday, 21 May focused on the proposed Swords Main Street Transformation project — one of the most significant town centre initiatives planned for Swords in recent years.

Delivered in partnership with Fingal County Council, the session provided early insight into the vision for transforming Main Street between Bridge Street and Swords Garda Station into a more attractive, vibrant and people-focused destination as part of the wider Sustainable Swords Strategy.

The briefing outlined the work completed to date, the proposed next steps in the planning and design process, and the opportunities for businesses and stakeholders to contribute through future workshops and consultation activity.

Members heard directly from Matthew McAleese, Director of Infrastructure and Transport at Fingal County Council, alongside Linda Lally, Senior Engineer, and Shane Satell, Senior Executive Engineer, who detailed how the project aims to improve connectivity, accessibility, public space and the overall experience of Swords town centre for businesses, residents and visitors alike.

The session also explored the potential long-term economic benefits of the transformation, including increased footfall, enhanced town vibrancy and improved connectivity across the wider Swords area.

A recording of the briefing is available for businesses and stakeholders who were unable to attend or who would like to revisit the discussion and proposed plans.

Fingal Chamber Chief Executive Anthony Cooney said:

“The proposed transformation of Swords Main Street represents a significant opportunity for the future development of the town centre and the wider regional economy. It is important that the business community is engaged early in the process and has the opportunity to contribute practical insights and perspectives as the project develops.”

He added:

“Swords continues to play a critical role in Fingal’s growth story. Projects that enhance connectivity, accessibility and the overall attractiveness of the town centre are essential to supporting enterprise and driving regional competitiveness.”

The event forms part of Fingal Chamber’s ongoing work to represent the collective voice of business in Fingal and to facilitate meaningful engagement between public bodies and the business community on projects that will shape the future growth and competitiveness of the region.
