Aircoach announces major double-decker bus change for popular Dublin Airport route

August 25, 2026

Dublin commuters and holidaymakers are in for a major upgrade as Aircoach has officially announced the launch of brand-new double-decker buses to its fleet for the very first time.

The state-of-the-art coaches are being rolled out across the operator’s popular 700X route, which runs directly between Dublin city centre and Dublin Airport. In a massive boost for passengers facing busy peak-time travel, Aircoach is completely replacing its existing single-deck coaches on the route, nearly doubling capacity from 49 to 97 seats per journey.

The move comes following a surge in passenger demand along the city-to-airport corridor. Beyond almost doubling seat availability, the double-deckers will allow passengers to bring luggage directly onboard, adding extra security and convenience for group travel—all without taking up any extra stand space at the airport campus.

The investment reflects growing customer numbers and the company’s commitment to modern, reliable travel, according to Aircoach Managing Director Kim Swan.

She said: "With Aircoach now able to almost double our passenger capacity on every journey on this route, our double-deckers will make a real difference for our customers, particularly at peak travel times, and we hope it will encourage even more people to choose sustainable bus travel over private car journeys."

Daa Commercial Director Ronan Fitzsimons also welcomed the move, highlighting the 27-year partnership with the transport operator and calling the fleet upgrade "both innovative and welcome" for keeping Dublin moving cleanly and efficiently.

The fleet overhaul follows a major multi-million euro investment by Aircoach last year in its cross-border 705X route connecting Dublin, Belfast, and Derry.

Tickets for the new purple double-decker services can be booked online via aircoach.ie.
