Brewing up a storm for the NFL game

Fingal microbrewery Hope Beer have executed a clever coup in teaming up with Pittsburgh based Tortured Souls Brewing to produce a beer celebrating the Pittsburgh Steelers v Minnesota Vikings match this weekend. Dublin will become just the fourth European city to host a regular-season game and 30,000 American football fans are expected to the party. Fittingly, the collaborative brew is called Renegade after the Steelers theme song and of course it’s an American Pale Ale - a fusion of Dublin craft and Pittsburgh grit.

Hope Beer are members of the Fingal Food Circle, a network of food and drink producers supported by Fingal County Council which is a testament to the growing strength and recognition of Fingal’s food community.

Renegade is described as a bold American Pale Ale packed with passion fruit, mango and tropical hop flavours, balanced by a clean malt backbone. Although the brewery uses around 90% of Irish grain, Renegade is brewed with German hops and grains in tribute to Pittsburgh’s rich European immigrant heritage. Perfect with spicy curries, buffalo wings, or BBQ. Renegade is a beer built for flavour, community, and celebration. Renegade is a limited brew and is available in pubs and off licences while stocks last.

Hope Beer is the only microbrewery in Fingal and launched in 2015 with the ongoing support of Local Enterprise Office – Fingal. Beginning with just three beers, they have developed a solid core range with regular seasonal additions. The core range beers have very layered branding, using unusual names (e.g. Handsome Jack, Passifyoucan) linked to stories embedded in the local culture. Their beers are linked very strongly to food pairings and each of the beer labels has food pairing suggestions as well as a story about the beer name.

Pittsburgh Steeler fans are all invited to Fingal during their stay in Dublin to check out not only Renegade but the wealth of activities and attractions on offer for tourists.

Renegade American Pale Ale Crafted with Weyermann Pilsner malt for a clean, light base, then packed with modern German hops including Hallertau Blanc and Solero, bringing bursts of passion fruit, mango, pineapple, and gooseberry. A Kölsch-style yeast ties it all together, delivering a crisp, fruity finish at a bold 6% ABV.
